Milton to Waukesha run - 05/13/00
The run took place on May 13, 2000. On Thursday May 11 the WSOR had a derailment in Waukesha. This made some people concerned about the trip being canceled, but since the derailment was very near the end of the track we were going to be on, we were able to go to within a half a mile of the depot. We were originally scheduled to leave at 8:30, but the WSOR was having a passenger special coming through Milton at 9:30. The skies were getting cloudier as we set on. We all hoped for the rain to hold off.WSOR dome car WSOR 10C WSOR 71AWe were all set on around 9:00. We had our saftey meeting and waited for WSOR 71A to come through. They were scheduled for 9:30, as they went by I noticed my watch said 9:31. There was a few jokes about this being the first time a railroad was on time.
We went by the WSOR GP-9 4494 parked on a siding and got a picture of Roger's WP-913 MT19A railcar next to it. We stopped for a restroom/snack stop.
I took another picture of the line up. I was able to get a little better view that included the hi railers that went with us. So far we were going about 15 MPH. We were on a very tight schedule so we sped up to 20 MPH. We called on the radio to see if the derailment was cleaned up yet. They were still working on it, so we had to turn around short of the depot were we originally planned to have lunch. We stopped at the 'tombstone' in North Prairie for a quick picture. We stopped for a short restroom break as we contacted the dispatcher to see were the passenger special was. It was about 30 minutes ahead of schedule. They was no way we could make it back to Milton in time. The dispatcher put us in a siding to let the train go by. We got back to Milton and all the cars were off the track and most of the people had left by the time the passenger train came back through Milton.
